Challenges Faced By Working Women

March 06, 2020 2 min read

“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.”

Celebrating women is a way of expressing our heartfelt gratitude towards each and every woman who plays a major role in our professional as well as personal life. International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year to celebrate the valor of women. In most countries, this day is observed as a national holiday owing to the pivotal role of women in our lives.

Women from various cultures and ethnic groups come together on this day to commemorate their struggle for peace, justice, equality, and development. Women empowerment is the need of the hour and fortunately, women are raising voice for an equal opportunity in whatever fields they want. They are coming to the forefront and posing questions on sensitive issues like equal wages in the workplace, educational rights and holding some of the major positions in the work sector.

Challenges of Today

Today, Women’s Day speeches are delivered on various national and international platforms and address various setbacks that still befall women who are working. Some of the issues have been discussed below:

  1. Gender Gap - The gap between the two genders has existed from ages and it is evidently visible in workplaces as well. Only 21.4% of seats have been reserved for women around the world. This is major because of the lack of resources and awareness in women who are unable to channel their true potential and are left lacking in various areas.
  2. The Growing Disparity In PayScale - There is a wide difference of 14.9% in the pay of men and women owing to their inability to speak and stand up for their rights.
  3. Dual responsibilities of work and household - It is known that women who belong to the working class are often subjected to dual pressures of work along with household chores. In most cases, women receive no cooperation from their partners and family which takes a toll on their overall performance.
